COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a unique, continuously-offered, web-based, self-paced learning opportunity offered to you to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card at your own pace, in your own place, using your PC, Mac, iPad, or Android, and the Internet.  The up-to-date material and presentations used in the CPS-ECP Boating Basics/PCOC classroom seminars are provided as webinars, narrated for your education whenever and wherever you wish to experience them.

Shortly after you register for this program, you will contacted by a member of CPS-ECP in your area who will facilitate your learning and arrange for the administration of the test. You can view the online presentations, and read the handbook, at you own pace. Your local contact will arrange with you a short face-to-face review in preparation for the required Transport Canada multiple-choice test.  The review and examinations dates will be confirmed as you begin your studies, tailored to your availability and expectations.

All operators of all engine-driven boats, including sailing boats capable of operating an auxiliary motor are required to show proof of operator competency. The Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card is the most common form of proof.  All you need to know for the Transport Canada test is presented in a format that is both informative and, hopefully, entertaining. You can be confident that this flexible, assisted-study program meets or exceeds all the standards established by Transport Canada’s Office of Boating Safety.

As a major benefit, once you successfully pass the test offered by Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS-ECP), your Card is recognized by BOTH Transport Canada and The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (USA). Further, having completed a CPS-ECP course, you are eligible to become a member of CPS-ECP with its privileges and benefits.  We are a fun bunch of boaters and sailors who volunteer to promote safe and enjoyable boating and sailing, and we have been doing it for more than 75 years!!

Everyone who operates a pleasure craft fitted with a motor and used for recreational purposes requires a PCOC.
